Our Approach

We design thoughtful, enduring architecture and guide projects from first idea through to completion. Whether you are commissioning your first home, delivering a multi-residential development, or managing a complex mixed-use or commercial project, we bring clarity, rigour and creativity to every stage.

Design Principles

Begin from first principles

Each project is unique in its requirements and situation and our design approach reflects that.

We like people and we take a genuine interest in understanding the needs and objectives that inform your brief. The project outcome should be a response to those objectives, rather than preconceived ideas so we ask “why?” before we ask “how?”. By thoroughly understanding your brief we can innovate to find the best solution for your specific circumstance.

Working with the environment

Our work is always sensitive to its environment.

We undertake detailed site analysis to understand the distinct characterics of a place. We look at the physical site conditions and its microclimate, and consider what opportunities a site can offer for passive environmental design. We look, feel and analyse, and cross reference this with your brief to understand what to amplify, and what to quieten.

Country-centred

When appropriate we work with traditional knowledge holders and First Nations advisors to develop designs and processes which are ecologically sensitive and respectful of cultural practices. Designing with Country aids us in the path to reconciliation, brings poetic richness to architecture through cultural narratives, and encourages a beautiful and diverse landscape.

Design for the future

The most sustainable thing you can build is nothing at all, but that does not always bring the best outcome for a client, site or community. We work with you to build less and build well. We retain what is good, adapt what is not quite working, and design for longevity for anything new. We use passive environmental solutions to create comfort and connection to the environment, with knowledge of Passive House design principles for energy efficiency. We consider the embodied energy in the materials we use and design to retain beauty, functionality and value.

We work together

We take a collaborative approach, working closely with our clients, end users, and communities. Good communication is at the forefront of everything we do. We listen. Then work with you to create architecture that is responsive to the unique needs of each, and is a delight to use and occupy.

Understanding enables innovation

Great design surprises and inspires, whilst feeling right for its place. The value we provide as architects is finding opportunity from constraints. We draw on our experience of leading major and significant projects, and combine that with a deep understanding of the project specific circumstances to find creative solutions that work for you.

Architectural Services

Our role extends well beyond design. We act as strategic advisors, problem-solvers and advocates for our clients—balancing vision, cost, programme and risk to deliver built outcomes of lasting value.

  • Every successful project begins with a clear understanding of opportunity.

We work closely with clients to test ideas early—assessing site constraints, planning controls, budgets and market objectives. Through feasibility studies, concept options and massing tests, we help identify the most effective design pathways before significant investment is made.

For homeowners, this means confidence that your brief is achievable.
For developers, it means informed decisions that optimise yield, quality and approval outcomes.

  • Our design approach is both creative and pragmatic. We develop architecture that is site-responsive, well-resolved, sustainable, and commercially intelligent.

From concept design through to detailed documentation, we focus on:

    • Strong spatial planning and liveability

    • Contextual and planning-responsive outcomes

    • High-quality material and construction strategies

    • Long-term durability and performance

We design with an understanding of how buildings are built—and how they are lived in, sold, managed and maintained.

  • Navigating planning systems requires experience, strategy and clear communication.

We manage the planning process from start to finish, preparing documentation, coordinating specialist inputs and liaising with councils, consultants and authorities. Our approach is proactive and solutions-focused, aimed at achieving approvals efficiently while protecting design quality.

We have extensive experience leading projects through:

    • Local and State planning approval processes

    • State Significant Development (SSD) and State Significant Infrastructure (SSI) pathways

    • Competitive Design Excellence processes and review panels

    • Authority engagement

For complex or sensitive sites, we work collaboratively with planning consultants, urban designers and legal advisors to reduce risk and uncertainty.

  • Architecture sits at the centre of a project team.

We lead and coordinate consultants including engineers, landscape architects, sustainability specialists and access consultants, ensuring all disciplines are integrated into a cohesive, well-resolved outcome.

This single point of coordination simplifies decision-making and maintains alignment between design, cost and programme, and our clients benefit from clear leadership, streamlined communication.

  • Clear documentation is critical to cost certainty and construction quality.

We prepare comprehensive construction documentation that enables builders to price accurately, reduces ambiguity on site, and protects the design intent throughout delivery. Our drawings and specifications are coordinated, considered and buildable—supporting smoother construction processes and better outcomes for all parties.

  • The D&BP Act 2020 applies to all multi-residential buildings, boarding houses, and residential care buildings in NSW.

We are experienced delivering regulated designs under the Design and Building Practitioners Act including:

    • Declared designs

    • Design compliance declarations

    • Coordination with registered design practitioners

    • Documentation aligned with statutory obligations and construction sequencing

This ensures our projects meet the highest standards of technical rigour, risk management and regulatory compliance.

  • During construction, we act as your representative and advocate.

    Our services can include:

    • Responding to contractor queries

    • Reviewing shop drawings and samples

    • Assessing progress claims

    • Managing variations

    • Conducting site inspections

    • Overseeing practical completion and defects management

For homeowners, this provides reassurance and professional oversight.
For developers, it ensures quality control, risk management and contractual clarity.
